How Batavia MainStreet is Crafting "Good Energy"
How a small local organization is making a large impact on Batavia's character.
Hey neighbor!
Next episode will marks the 3rd annual Batavia Boardwalk Shops episode, where I’ll share conversations with each shop owner for the 2026 season.
In the lead up to that episode, I’m talking to the people responsible for making it all happen, Beth and Kristen from Batavia MainStreet. Not only does MainStreet organize and prep the boardwalk shop owners, they also help evaluate and curate the shops themselves.
That curation is a great example of one of the things that intrigued me about MainStreet as an organization. With great influence comes responsibility, and this nonprofit uses theirs to build up and shape the character of our town for good. When you check out the shops this year, you’ll have MainStreet to thank for the unique character on display.
These kinds of public-facing, community-defining decisions come with a lot of weight, sometimes even baggage. So how do Beth and Kristen lead in these initiatives without feeling overwhelmed, not just by their work but by public scrutiny?
ALSO THIS EPISODE: Hear a very special segment from our sponsor, Meadowcrafters, featuring their founder, Stephanie Gilbert, on how local gardens can help keep Batavia weird.
Watch Tri-Cities ‘LIVE’ with Chris Wallace and Sam Kraft, mentioned during this episode.

This week’s episode of Area Code Batavia is brought to you by Meadowcrafters.
Meet Stephanie, a Batavia neighbor who left the corporate gardening world to bring conservation horticulture to the Fox Valley.
Her company, Meadowcrafters, is a worker-owned co-op. This means the people working on your property aren’t just “checking a box”; they’re owners with genuine pride in their craft.
Whether you need full-season management or just a few hours of expert help to tackle a project you’ve been putting off, Meadowcrafters can help ensure your garden thrives while supporting our local ecosystem.
